How To Write Effective Thank You Notes After A Job Interview Five Tips With Real

How To Write Effective Thank You Notes After A Job Interview: Five Tips With Real-Life Examples I still emphasize the importance of thanks notes after 20+ years of teaching job search abilities at an Ivy League graduate college (and I’ve taught by way of each boom and bust hiring markets). Thank you notes after a job interview or common networking assembly keep you entrance-of-thoughts with the people you meet. Thank you notes continue the momentum from what you mentioned earlier than. Thank you notes can even add to the momentum whenever you embody further ideas and ideas. It’s not difficult or time-consuming to write good thank you notes (thank you emails count!), and as per above, there are clear advantages to doing so. If that’s not sufficient to convince you, not writing thanks notes or hastily throwing one thing collectively has downsides. Here are five tips to writing effective thanks notes, together with actual-life examples of job seekers who got it mistaken or right: Just do it Employers do discover when the thank you observe is lacking. In reality, in a current search I carried out for a wellness group, one of many negatives on an in any other case strong candidate was his lack of a thank you observe. Since a major a part of the job was performing as the external face to agency companions, donors, and different constituents of this organization, the hiring team felt that the dearth of a thank you notice could be indicative of the dearth of comply with up this candidate may do on the job. In one other search I worked on â€" advertising for a media firm â€" lack of a thank you notice was seen as lack of interest. Employers could differ on why it’s a adverse, but lacking the thanks observe is seen as a adverse. Proofread before you hit Send Definitely send thanks notes, however don’t send simply anything. One seven-figure candidate (that’s not a typo, this was a high-level gross sales function and this top producer was paid accordingly) sent a thank you with several typos and grammatical errors. The sloppiness of his comply with-up was in direct distinction to his impeccable gown and articulate interview. The hiring team was involved about who was the true candidate and determined that this lack of consistency was a deal-breaker. Mistakes in job search material (cowl letters and resumes, in addition to thank you notes) are huge red flags for employers because if you aren’t going to take the time double-examine whenever you’re still within the courting stage, how are you going to carry out whenever you land the job? Personalize So you understand to ship thanks notes, and you check for typos and good grammar. You additionally wish to personalize your notes, especially should you meet with multiple individuals. Yes, this means that you should bear in mind who you met with and ship a separate observe to every particular person. If you only have a recruiter or HR contact, ask that individual for everyone else’s info or to ahead the notes â€" after I get that request from my candidates, I’m pleased to help as a result of I’m happy they’re sending thanks’s! Don’t just copy and paste the identical notice to everybody. One job seeker actually sent the exact same observe to everyone she met with for a program management role at a basis. The interviewers in contrast notes and realized the candidate didn’t make any effort to narrate to them individually. This brought up concerns about consideration to element and general curiosity within the position. Personalize your notes by referring to something particular you discussed with that interviewer â€" one thing they stated, a subject you lined within the interview. It’s a little extra effort that shows you were engaged with them specifically. Move the method forward Not all thank you observe tales are examples of what not to do! In one advertising search I was working on for a financial providers agency, two candidates had been neck-and-neck. One had the slight edge as a result of rebranding was a big precedence for the firm, and this finalist came throughout because the more artistic, out-of-the-field thinker. Furthermore, his thanks note supported his interview performance with hyperlinks to varied branding campaigns, reminding the hiring team that he may walk his interview discuss. A properly-accomplished thanks notice can move the process forward by giving the employer extra proof that you simply’re the best candidate for the job. Leave a lasting impression Good thanks notes make an impression that helps even when a job search doesn't go in your favor. One candidate for a junior editorial job didn’t have the same stage of experience as the individual ultimately hired, but he wrote a gracious and effusive thanks to every particular person he met, grateful to only be thought of and asking to stay on our radar for something. One of the editors was taken by his earnestness and asked me to maintain him on the radar for advert hoc temp jobs. Shortly thereafter, a low-stage temp task did open up (something very basic like cataloguing old articles), and the hiring team wanted this candidate because they felt he would have the proper attitude for what others would possibly think about too small a job. He accepted, was simply as enthusiastic as his thanks, and found extra small jobs tossed his way, till a bigger everlasting job opened up. By that time, he had a observe record of expertise and relationships at that magazine, and he landed the bigger job. A good thanks notice is an extra touchpoint with prospective employers â€" take that chance. Send proofread, personalised thanks notes. The benefits can push a job search outcome in your favor and even linger past the job search at hand. A model of this post initially appeared in my Leadership column on Forbes.com. Arranging and Organization as a Means to Success Arranging and Organization as a Means to Success Arranging and Organization as a Means to Success Learning Valuable Lessons at Ohio State University By Alaina G. Levine Successful undertaking arranging and association includes a mind boggling exhibit of information, aptitudes, and manners of thinking among a group. It requires a limited degree of detail direction just as the capacity to see the bigger picture. What's more, it requires cautious documentation of each progression. As The Ohio State University (OSU) ASME Student Section arranged and composed its Diversity Action Grant (DAG) venture, it enhanced and extended these abilities in noteworthy and energizing manners. The idea of being meticulous, particularly concerning coordinations, was not lost on the gathering since its venture included children, educators, and different partners discovered past the dividers of the college. For as long as three years, OSU ASME visited a nearby grade school in the Columbus zone and introduced hands-on exercises for the children to find out about various parts of mechanical designing. The understudy area needed to extend the program, and it imagined that the DAG would permit the group to offer the program at a subsequent school, just as make an essential improvement to a genuinely new examination it had introduced already. The initial phase in the developing procedure was an ideation meeting that the Student Section held for its individuals. They analyzed educational program models at the college and started investigating strategies to join these ideas into fun demos, says Nathan Hankins, people group outreach seat of the ASME Student Section, who started to lead the pack on this task. The ideation meeting urged the understudies to deliberately think about what might energize children of a specific age gathering. We needed to make a demo that draws in and understands that evaluation contemplating what they ought to realize, Hankins reflects. As they planned the exercises, the ASME understudies likewise considered different components of the occasion. The program comprises of various demos occurring simultaneously, with gatherings of children pivoting at regular intervals to another station. To grow the program, the ME majors examined the chance of having a greater number of stations than they had made previously, just as how to tailor the demo for the correct age gathering, he includes. It was important to decide how best to address the issues of the children at their present learning level. An OSU ASME Student Section part showing the material science of exciting rides at a nearby grade school (photograph credit Nathan Hankins) In actualizing their program, the group used different arranging apparatuses. Ohio States Student Section shared an online task journal, which guaranteed the individuals could follow back any development to its cause. As they arranged out their occasion, we had this report which indicated us the first thought, clarifies Hankins, so on the off chance that we chose to change course, we could generally return to [the unique idea] and get back on track, as the group investigated different roads. The gathering depended on Google Drive, Gmail, and other web based planning programs. We utilized Google Drive for the officials to share data and impart cutoff times trying to keep everybody in the same spot, he audits. The apparatuses likewise helped the Section in archiving everything, he includes, a urgent advance in breaking down the accomplishment of the program and announcing back to ASME. As the group set up its arrangement to introduce the exercises at the schools, we needed to ensure we completely saw the entirety of the coordinations of how the task would go down, says Hankins. These coordinations extended from knowing how, where, and when they could dump their apparatus at the school to any limitations the scene may have in regards to possibly hazardous materials and comprehension in exact detail precisely what was anticipated from the area while it was on the schools premises. Plan as far as possible early, in light of the fact that things will happen that you didnt expect, says Hankins. But then, in spite of all its arranging, the individuals from Ohio State Universitys Section went up against a huge hindrance. The group had invested a lot of energy arranging and sorting out precisely how they would execute the occasion at the subsequent school. We were completely arranged to go to the school, he portrays. And afterward, only a couple of days before the program was to begin, we discovered finally that the exercise center was reserved for another get together. It was a learning procedure for the ASME group. Since it was another school, the ME understudies were new to the organizations procedure in saving the rec center and how much time in front of the occasion they expected to officially demand the space. Accordingly, they needed to drop the visit. Be that as it may, looking forward, I am completely certain that one year from now the ASME area will have the option to put this occasion on for the children and effectively extend our program, he says. As Hankins plans to begin a new position as a structure engineer, he lets it be known was a great idea to get familiar with this exercise now, as opposed to in a high-stakes condition, as on the production line floor or plan lab. Got a Project Idea Your Student Section Can Apply for a Diversity Action Grant This venture was upheld by the ASME Diversity Action Grant (DAG) program that offers ASME understudy segments the chance to direct mechanical building centered occasions/extends that advance STEM training and the consideration of under-served networks and ladies. How to Deal with an Abusive Boss or Colleague at Work - Workology

How to Deal with an Abusive Boss or Colleague at Work - Workology Do You Have An Abusive Boss? I think weve all, at some point in our careers, have had to deal someone at work who was abusiveâ€"whether it be a boss or peer. Sometimes they are intense. Other times they are too demanding. Often times they are a micromanager, but it can cause great stress and force an otherwise stellar high-performer to make a career decision that impacts them professionally. If you’ve had one, you know it. But as someone in an HR leadership position, how do you identify a problem that hasn’t been (and may never be) brought to your attention? And if you’re experiencing abuse from a boss or coworker, how should you handle it? Do You Have An Abusive Boss? First, let’s define what an abusive boss is. You know what “hostile work environment” means. If the driver behind the wheel of a specific hostile work environment is in a supervisory position, his or her direct reports are potential targets. You’d think they’d be easy to identify, but considering that your typical employee’s response to a ranting, raving, micromanager is to duck and cover, you might not know who they are. Researchers working to determine whether abusive bosses share certain personality traits have ended up with some unexpected findings. Going into the study, the team of psychologists from the University of Cambridge in the UK and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium guessed that if abusive supervisors had any personality trait in common, it would likely be low agreeableness. It was a hypothesis that made sense since less agreeable people tend to be less friendly and more aggressive, so you’d expect them to be more likely to be abusive bossesâ€"but it was a hypothesis that turned out to be wrong. Some Thoughts About Abuse in the Workplace Instead, here’s what the study showed: Abusive bosses are more conscientious on average. Contrary to what the researchers had anticipated, the abusive supervisors ended up being more conscientious as a group than the non-abusive supervisors. This was unexpected because conscientiousness is associated with being organized, rule-abiding, thorough, hard-working and disciplined, none of which necessarily scream “abusive boss” right off the bat. One possible reason for the connection is that more conscientious people can be less flexible, tend to place more importance on high achievement and might get more frustrated when their subordinates don’t live up to high standards. Highly conscientious people can also have an authoritarian streak. A 2014 study found that more conscientious people are more willing to administer electric shocks to others when told to do so. Abusive bosses are more Machiavellian. Although the recent study is the first to find a link between conscientiousness and being perceived as abusive by one’s subordinates, researchers have previously looked at other personality traits abusive bosses share. A 2010 study found that supervisors considered more abusive by their subordinates tended to score higher on Machiavellianism, a personality trait associated with being manipulative, deceptive, cynical and selfish. Combine these characteristics with a penchant for being rule-abiding, hard-working and achievement-oriented, and you can start to see how you end up with an individual you might not want to work for. Abusive bosses have lower emotional intelligence. This is a hot topic in leadership and performance. Having lower emotional intelligence can often result in miscommunication and lack of empathy from your manager or boss. If you’ve ever been in your boss’s office apologizing for an error and explaining how you corrected it, at some point you’ll realize the only way to make your boss happy is to literally turn back time. They don’t want to hear your solution and how you’ve ensured it won’t happen again. They want you to UNDO IT. Lack of empathy and reasoning can make for one heck of an abusive boss. So now that we’ve identified some key personality traits of the abusive boss (your abusive boss? Sorry…), here are some tips on how to handle it professionally without losing your motivation or allowing your morale to be negatively impacted.

You wouldn’t be wrong in thinking this; with 51,690 digital tech businesses calling London home and a £64.1 billion digital tech turnover, it’s pretty clear to see why London is a frontrunner for the UK tech space. However, there is a lot to be said about the progression of technology enterprises in Scotland and their contribution to the global ecosystem. In case you’ve missed the news, we would like to introduce you to the tantalisingly exciting tech world of Edinburgh - the capital of Scotland (and soon to becoming the tech capital of the world). If you’re interested in becoming a part of an incredibly exhilarating movement to transform the world of technology whilst living in the land of the Scots, then listen up.   Recent Developments Over the last few years, Edinburgh has certainly put its stamp on the tech world and is becoming one of the UK’s fastest growing tech ecosystems. Recent reports show that Edinburgh employs more than 48,000 people in the digital tech sector, who make an average salary of £42,500 - almost 15% higher than the overall average salary in the city. Not only this, but 4% of Edinburgh’s working population are active in digital technology, which is only 2% lower than London’s 6%. To highlight the rapid developments, Edinburgh jobs in digital technology increased over 3 times the UK average between 2014 and 2017, and boasted a £1.14 billion tech business turnover in 2017. Also, taking into account adjusted living costs, the report has also named the Scottish capital the best place in the UK to work as an analyst for spending power, while its neighbouring city, Glasgow, was named the top for Project Managers. With these extremely exciting statistics, Edinburgh is showing no signs of slowing down in its success within the tech sphere.   Home of the Unicorns Edinburgh has been the birthplace of a variety of major multinational companies and unicorns that have gone on to conquer the tech world. Here’s a couple of them that you may recognise: Skyscanner â€" this international online travel agency started in a bedroom in Edinburgh and now has 10 offices worldwide with 100 million active monthly users. The CEO, Gareth Williams, attributes the success to the supportive community, world-class computer science department from the University of Edinburgh, and even said if it were founded in an extremely tech-heavy city like Silicon Valley he’s not sure it would have been successful. FanDuel â€" this fantasy sports site started as a news prediction platform that was founded in Edinburgh with around seven employees. The company managed to secure fresh investment and expand globally in the last 10 years, with its two biggest offices still in Edinburgh, where engineers represent the majority employees there. Lesley Eccles, co-founder of FanDuel, values Edinburgh as a tech space: “We started FanDuel in Edinburgh in 2009 at a time when there was very little in the way of a tech ecosystem. We were inspired by Silicon Valley and wanted to recreate that environment in Scotland, where we lived. The best way to do that is to build a successful tech business. Now with FanDuel and Skyscanner plus a myriad of other tech companies, the city is transformed into a hub of tech talent,  second only to London in the UK.   I didn't hesitate in my decision to build my second company there too.” Edinburgh was such a successful starting place for FanDuel, Lesley is now building her new business, Relish (the number one relationship training app), here and we’re looking forward to seeing it thrive within the supportive community! It’s not just the startups that are noticing the opportunities in Edinburgh, large companies are also flocking to build tech forces here. Food delivery service Deliveroo has recently acquired Scottish software development firm, Cultivate, and plans to employ 50 more people in the Edinburgh office within three years. The acquisition comes from the awareness of tech talent in the Scottish capital and the company has really taken advantage of this to build world-class software. (If Deliveroo is taking advantage of your city’s tech talent, it’s got to be doing something right!) The city has produced some major innovative global players and is a highly attractive place for new and established businesses looking to take advantage of the tech support and network it has to offer. In fact, the Scottish capital was named the UK’s best city to launch a startup in 2017, so if you’re feeling entrepreneurial, Edinburgh is definitely the place to be.   Why Edinburgh? Edinburgh boasts a likeness to London with its lively atmosphere and modern city landscapes without the treacherous underground commute (plus you have the added benefit of an internationally renowned castle on your doorstep). Edinburgh’s winding streets and iconic landmarks creates a beautiful and surreal vista of modern innovations mixed with historical offerings that really does give you the best of both worlds. From a business perspective, the key strength the capital has is the helpful tech community and support offered. Mairi McCallum from Flick talks about the sense of community felt in Edinburgh; particularly at CodeBase, the UK’s largest technology incubator: “There has been a lot of successes with companies here raising quite a lot of money, and you feel like it’s a win for everybody. It feels like the community here isn’t competitive, everybody is rooting for everybody else and helping one another.” If this hasn’t yet convinced you, Edinburgh is also home to world renowned Universities developing ground-breaking research. The University of Edinburgh’s acclaimed School of Informatics generates many highly skilled graduates ready to work immediately, as well as undertaking innovate research such as the recent developments in AI exploration.   Edinburgh is certainly running the race for the world’s top tech ecosystems - and it’s running in the fast lane - so why not join the race today?

The Evolution of Work Mobile Communication Marla Gottschalk

The Evolution of Work Mobile Communication Marla Gottschalk I never knew precisely what George Jetson accomplished professionally yet what I knew was that his chief, Mr. Spacely, could speak with him from pretty much anyplace. This didnt appear such something worth being thankful for at any rate how it was depicted around then. In any case, I am gradually changing my view. In our reality, the devices might be unique, yet the topic remains. Versatile correspondence was inescapable, and it is penetrating our work environment. It is dependent upon us to say something, deal with the shortcomings and augment its potential.Mr. Spacely may have mishandled his mechanical benefits, by bullying his worker with counter-profitable trades, however versatile doesnt must be a messy word in the working environment. Many appear to be concerned that the human side of work will endure enormously, and that the nature of our work lives will fall. I am not exactly that concerned. Discovering Balance With any advancement, there is a modification period while individuals battle to incorporate the item or procedure into regular day to day existence. Coordinating portable adequately with work might be especially testing a result of the chance of interruption it is a conspicuous drawback. Obviously, we ought to be worried about the intrinsic defeats of an innovatively stuck life. There has been proceeded with conclusion to contain the limits of work with an end goal to improve the general nature of our lives. Be that as it may, containing work may have never been a practical objective. (In spite of the fact that the parameters of those limits and the meaning of value will differ by the individual.) I cannot appear to bind my musings concerning work to my work area, and Im not certain that I would need to. We will undoubtedly consider our work and its difficulties outside of the workplace when we are driving, having supper or viewing a film. That is anything but a terrible thing however how we use portable to catch how we work as intuition individuals profitably, is vital. Essentially on the grounds that innovation will permit our work lives to grow doesn't really direct that it turns into an all day, every day activity. We need to oversee innovation and not the reverse way around. It is a chance and not a sentence. We are discovering that to exceed expectations, authoritative societies must stress transparency and coordinated effort, and if innovation adds to that cause, its a success win circumstance. Helping representatives become progressively viable through portable ought to be a need yet this isn't a race it is a procedure. Portable could burden us further and add to our destruction, however there are circumstances where versatile just bodes well. Its as of now in our pockets. So why not attempt. A characteristic fit: Idea the board coordinated effort Engineers are tested with the errand of figuring out what truly converts into versatile and what basically doesnt work. Versatile doesnt appear to be fit to copy a PC work area in any case, with certain working environment challenges the points of interest are there. As clarified by Benjamin Robbins, Principal at Palador, If there is one perspective that a cell phone ought to enormously exceed expectations at over a PC, it is joint effort. Robbins is truly scrutinizing this thought. He has made the committment to utilize just his cell phone, and the adjustments which he makes for a whole year. (Find out about his excursion here). The motivation behind this activity is two-crease. In addition to the fact that he wants to investigate what should be possible with a cell phone yet what cant be done successfully, too. As he clarified, there is a characteristic fit among portable and elements of work, for example, conceptualizing. With versatile this is a whenever suggestion, so you dont must be at your work area to make. The possibility that you can impart notes and thoughts to associates, across time zones and block mortar dividers is vital. Robbins clarifies that, Discovering what parts of portable that can upgrade virtual learning is vital. He proceeds to clarify that we could see portable as a work environment study hall without limits. There are unlimited opportunities for thought sharing and the perception of those thoughts with versatile. Getting the correspondence slack Some portable specialized apparatuses are conceived out of a solid need in the workplace. LUA, for instance, the cerebrum offspring of Michael DeFranco and his group, has a natural feel both in its initiation and usage. An ongoing alumni of the TechStar start-up quickening agent program, DeFranco disclosed to me that LUA created due to a hole in the interchanges showcase. Intended for quick paced, field-driven situations, LUA gives correspondence capacities to enterprises that in a previous life, were basically walkie talkie driven. (How might we overlook the correspondence bad dream of people on call for the 9/11 calamity?) Different businesses, for example, film creation, deals associations and development, where rapidly scattering advancing data can likewise spell achievement or disappointment can use versatile to turn out to be progressively viable. With the capacity to transfer and disseminate reports, start moment telephone calls, and sync group correspondence between work stations and versatile devices LUA satisfies a not insignificant rundown of field correspondence needs. Indeed, even specialists can likewise be empowered to get to the system briefly an unquestionable requirement for rapidly evolving workforces. Encouraging virtual group viability The capability of versatile to encourage joining is clear and the individuals who instruct virtual joining methods see incredible potential. As clarified by Illysa Izenberg, of Strategy and Training Partners, LLC, Technology improves group correspondence when the hottest and generally connective and comprehensive apparatuses are used, (for example, video-conferencing, online whiteboards, and shared intranet sites). These devices center around individuals conveying transparently yet consciously to examine concerns, share records and individual data on intranet dividers to cooperatively resolve difficulties. The Future is Blurry

The Future is Blurry I recently did a mini survey of companies to try and determine how clear, or otherwise, they are about their vision and their mission. Interesting exercise I can tell you! A number of things were clear from the responses but if I had to pick three key points they would be: There is a definite lack of clarity when it comes to vision generalization I know, but definitely true! There is ambiguity between what a vision is and what a mission is. Most of the visions shared with me could do with a bit more excitement, if I am to be honest! Yes, indeed the future is blurry!  I know there are tomes written and forests felled to provide the paper for all that has been written about vision and mission, but let me give you my tuppence worth to clarify how I define vision and mission.  Vision clearly demonstrates where you want the business to be it communicates the purpose and the values. It answers the question “Where do you intend to be?”  Mission articulates what you will do to get there, and what you will deliver to your customers.  Here are some examples: Google (source) Vision Focus on the user and all else will follow. Mission To organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Toyota USA Vision To be the most successful and respected car company in America. Mission To attract and attain customers with high-valued products and services and the most satisfying ownership experience in America. Interestingly, the two are quite different, but where they want to go is very clear as well as how they intend going about it. Not wishing to position myself among Google or Toyota I thought I would share my own! My vision is to help my clients win at business and life. My mission is to coach top teams, executives and business owners to perform at their highest level possible. Truthfully, my vision and mission are the absolute drivers of my business and I am thoroughly passionate about fulfilling them! It motivates me every day and helps me determine the most important things I should be doing at any one time! Why is a  vision and mission important? So, why am I going on about vision and mission? Because they are absolutely critical to long term success. They are your guiding light, your North Star or however you want to describe them. You can look at those and then you know whether you are going in the right direction or not. In the absence of having clarity around your vision and mission, you can end up just being a busy fool! Lots of activity but no clear focus. The beauty of having real clarity about your vision and mission is that it gives you context for everything you do. Now, when decisions have to be made about allocating resource be that people, time or money, all of which are extremely valuable! you can now view whether that decision is going to get you closer to the achievement of your vision or not. For your people, it is critical that there is extraordinary clarity around your vision. You see we all want to belong to a cause that has a real meaning, and when we go to work, it is no different. Your people want to do more than just turn up for work and get paid! They absolutely do! They want to feel that what they are doing is making a contribution and that it matters! The alternative is drudgery there is no heart and soul involved. Also, they will not believe that the future is exciting! How can they? There is no future painted for them. The consequence is an under performing workforce, and one with a high turnover. Not where you want to be! Those organisations who get this vision piece right have a more committed workforce enjoy a more high ly productive workforce who will always go that extra mile for you. If your major focus is only on where you are going to generate revenue next month’s, or next year’s income, then your sights are too low and you are likely to always be in survival mode. That is not an invigorating objective for your people it just sounds like squeezing the orange dry! Aim high set your vision and mission to be something worth going for and something that will make a difference! Then go about sharing it with your people again and again! You can never communicate too much!! Please, don’t settle for mediocrity set out your stall to be of some significant worth. Share the output from your thinking with me I love hearing what you are working on. Don’t worry about getting it word perfect you can get that right afterwards. Just get the sense, significance and emotion of it. Come on, hit me with your drafts of vision and mission it will be worth the effort, for you and your business. I promise you!

Interview jitters Heres how to make yourself look great

Interview jitters Here’s how to make yourself look great You wake up, your next job interview in three hours, your natty suit and kitten heels waiting by the door. You didn’t sleep much last night; the tension was just too great. And, as you walk up to the mirror, the stress and strain of the job hunt shows. Bags under your eyes, skin drier than the Gobi desert, hair like Worzel Gummidge’s and eyes blearier than a sleep-deprived bloodhound. It’s not ideal for an interview, is it? While job interviewers should be entirely objective when it comes to appearance, most aren’t. Instead, you could be evaluated on something entirely arbitrary â€" how attractive you are. Christine Rudder’s book Dataclysm, drawing on a sample of 5,000 female applicants, showed that those most attractive to the hiring manager were the likeliest to be asked for an interview. So, the beauty game is (as immoral as it might seem) is, in part, a necessity. There are, however, tons of ways to beat that bedhead for good. Just follow these tips and you’ll look dazzling every time a high-flying job interview is in your midst. Lock down those locks Do you ever trip over your armpit hairs? Has anyone ever mistaken you for a Wookie? Do you carry an emergency shaving kit wherever you go? Are you able to use the leftovers of your trimmed body hair as a draught excluder? It might be time to sort those unruly locks out. Laser hair removal, a simple process where those feisty follicles are scythed off, will leave you as hairless as a baby seal. Instead you won’t have to worry about a bad case of stubbly legs come interview day. Dream of success Trying to get some sleep before a big interview is like trying to kick water uphill â€" no matter how much you attempt to clear your mind, you’ll still end up staring at the ceiling with your eyes wide open. But if you’ve got your circadian rhythms sorted already, catching a few Zs will be far easier. Avoid television and computer screens before bed (they overstimulate the mind) and read a relaxing book instead. You’ll soon find yourself nodding off like a log â€" and wake feeling refreshed. Water load of health Put away those Diet Cokes, shelve those energy drinks and glug some H2O, instead. With an average eight glasses of water a day you’ll feel more awake thanks to a healthier blood circulation. Combine all these tips and you’ll be acing interviews left, right and centre.

Guest Post Ready for a Career Change Try an MBA

Guest Post Ready for a Career Change Try an MBA Are you having trouble envisioning your future in your current position or field of business?   Would you be surprised to know that roughly two thirds of MBA students have enrolled in their programs to enable a career change?   While admissions committees are looking for candidates with clear and directed goals, they understand that many applicants are aiming for new experience and opportunity through their MBA program to facilitate a career shift. Obtaining an MBA may be a great way to change careers or take yours to another level. The exposure you receive to new networks, relevant activities and classroom learning are all capable of significantly changing your mindset as well as your outlook on your industry. If you’re interested in switching careers through an MBA, youll want to do some soul searching before you apply to a particular program.   While an MBA may be an excellent vehicle for career change, it may also require a hefty investment. Therefore, it’s a good idea to figure out where you want your MBA to lead you before you pursue this degree. That process might also help you compile a stronger application essay that contains carefully planned long-term career goals. Once you have been accepted, clearly understanding what you want and expect upon completion of your degree will help you to plan, as best as possible, how to take full advantage of your time in the program.   If you think about it from a business perspective, you will certainly want to get the most value for your money.   The best way to do this may be to create your own opportunities while in the program.   For example, research your target industry and look for clubs or professional organizations that will expose you to companies or potential employers, in that industry. One could argue that an MBA is less about the classroom learning and more about the exposure and networking.   As an MBA student, youll have access to an abundance of resources and people that may expand your career opportunities.   It will be your responsibility to make the most of the time you have during your program. So don’t expect that the program will help you figure out what you want to do with your life.   If you decide to pursue an MBA, you should know what you want to do before you enroll. Having a plan means that you can judge whether you are getting your money’s worth. If you need help figuring out what you want your future to look like, consider some of the following steps. Take the time to research different MBA programs and particular areas of study within the program. Look to find something that really sparks your fire. While doing this, locate a seasoned business leader that you respect who can mentor you in your transition. Many professionals enjoy giving back to younger individuals in a mentor-protégé relationship. They can be helpful in guiding your thought process. When making difficult decisions, it’s useful to hear yourself talk out loud about what you have been thinking.   This will either reassure you that you’re thinking in the right direction or make it clear that you really want to do something completely different. Once you have determined what you want your future career to look like, put it down on paper, in detail. Look for ways to build experience in the direction you want to move.
